The Windows SDK is a Software Development Kit from Microsoft that allows development of application software for Microsoft Windows. It contains header files, libraries, classes, documentation, and other tools that improve the quality of applications developed for Microsoft Windows.

The Windows SDK has been previously known as PSDK, or the Platfrom SDK, but the name has been changed during the release of Windows Vista.

The Windows SDK allows development of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP application software, while the older Platform SDK is still available, and allows development of applications for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.
