A "War Game" is a sub-genre of games, it is the theme of a game in which the player is pitted into a war and must fight various battles to succeed.

When attempting to create a war game, the developer must decide upon a number of crucial options, one of the most prominent being; is the game based on a real war or a made up one. They can then go on into further planning about views, graphics, story-line, genre, etc.
