- This is about the .NET Framework version of Visual Basic.
Visual Basic .NET is the successor of Visual Basic. It does not feature huge backward compatibility to the older Visual Basic-languages. It has alot of improvements and more stability, and is based on the .NET Framework. Visual Basic .NET's main IDE is Microsoft Visual Studio.

Visual Basic .NET The first version of Visual Basic .NET was released on 2002 with C# and ASP.NET. C# was the target of the media; while Visual Basic .NET was just considered as "VB7".
Visual Basic .NET 2003 Visual Basic .NET 2003 included huge changes and improvements in much areas, running the improved .NET Framework 1.1.
Visual Basic (.NET) 2005 This version has had the .NET title dropped out completely. It features huge improvements and changes.
