A resolution of a computer display screen is the total number of pixels that could be drawn on the screen without overriding each other. It is not written as a number, but instead as a mathematical statement (width x height).

Reasons for writing the resolution as a mathematical statement instead of a whole numbers are many, but the main two are that first: a number will not provide both dimensions of the resolution (since it isn't square), and two: the number resulting would be too large.

Frequent resolutions are 800x600 and 1024x768, all have the ratio of 4:3.
