A hyperlink is a navigation element placed in a document that references to a section within that document or another document. Hyperlinks are often found in web technologies; it exists in HTML and XHTML to link between pages as a single element as well as part of images (through maps), and it also exists in the XML language through the XLink technology. Hyperlinks exists in .pdf documents, wordprocessing documents, etc.

Hyperlinks can be inline links or embedded links.
