Game Maker 3.3, also appearing in 2001, appeared right after Game Maker 3.2b, it has been said to be an "additional and quick" version released after 3.0.

- Games now require DirectX to be present on the machine.
- Games run on lower versions of DirectX (no longer 6 required).
- Large sprites now work correctly, also on 32-bit color.
- Less resource consumption when running.
- Exclusive mode in which you can pick the screen resolution (use with care though).
- Faster starting time when using exact collision checking.
- Solved some bugs that resulted in switching screen mode even if it was not allowed.
- Better checking for certain coding errors.
- Smoother transitions.
- A bit faster graphics when drawing other things than images.
- Improvement in memory usage, in particular when using code.
- Option whether or not to release sprite memory between rooms.
