GMpedia.org Wiki:Getting started
From GMpedia.org Wiki
Welcome to GMPedia. GMPedia is a wiki. Your contributions are highly welcome, but before you get started, here's some tips and guidelines:
Guidelines
- Always try to categorize the articles you start. You can find a list of them here.
- For example, if you are making an article about something related to programming, you would categorize it to the programming category. You can categorize pages by adding [[Category:Category_Name]] to them. You can see a a list of common categories.
- GMPedia does not encourage starting stub articles. Stub articles are very short, and provide little to no information. If you see a stub article, and it does not have the stub tag, please add it.
- You can add a stub tag by entering {{stub}} to the end of the page. This will put a stub notice on it, and categorize it as a stub.
- Split your articles into sections. Article structure usually has a brief explanation at the beginning, and then multiple sections, such as History and Features.
- You can make a section by entering ==Section Name==.
- Name pages properly. For example, instead of Visual Studio, the page is called Microsoft Visual Studio. Instead of Windows, the name is Microsoft Windows.
- You can make a redirect where you think it is appropriate. (#REDIRECT [[Page_Name]])
Tips
- You can read the Wikipedia tutorial to get a basic sense of editing the wiki (GMPedia runs on the same software).
- Pages have talk pages. For example, if you are writing a page about something, and want somebody else's opinion, start a talk page.
- Start a new section for every "talk topic" in talk pages. You can use :'s to indent. You must sign your messages with ~~~~.
